Using Custom Javascript in EmberJS

I'm trying to put together a push sidebar menu in my EmberJS app but I don't know how to properly add custom javascript to the app. I'm also unsure how the events work in ember. I want these functions to be available on document.ready and I know ember has there way of implementing the events but do I use them in the custom javascript? Or do I call them in a controller of some sort.

If someone could clear this up for me that would be great.
