Emberjs - Render Page and then return an async model

I always use sync jquery ajax call to fetch my API's data. This is pretty suboptimal, considering the fact that the call might be delayed. I want my user to have some feedback having the page rendered and a spinner, while the data are on the go.

I dont use Ember Data, so can someone guide me with some links or advices? Again no Ember data.
