When do multi-level nested components have a negative impact on performance?

I am trying to figure out a good standard for creating components. I am working with Emberjs but ideally this could work for any similar JS framework.

I like the idea of a clean template with lots of components rather than blocks of HTML. I'm sure there is an impact on performance but at what number does this become an issue. I've read that modern browsers are able to handle this well but I'd love to hear more on this.

If there is a coding standard I can read regarding components that will help too.
