Sharing services in ember engines

I have an outside addon engine in my app. I have shared a service in my app as a dependency to my engine. After mounting the engine, when I change the value of a key in my service from my ember app It is not reflected back in my engine. Assertion failed error occurs. Does the engine take only the value of the service when it is mounted? Doesn't the singleton service sync with the engine?
