Actions in Route Handler

I've done couple of projects in Ember so I am not completely new to it. In my last project about a year ago I used ember-route-action-helper addon to have all my actions in routes instead of creating a controller. I recently started another project and noticed I can handle actions in routes without using this addon.

I did search on google but didn't get any clue. Is this a new feature added in Ember and is there any drawback to handle actions in routes instead of controller? Besides, what's the use of controller now?
