Intermittent Ember Build Failure: ECONNRESET during NPM via maven/frontend plugin

How can I reduce risk of build failure due to intermittent ECONNRESET?

We use maven + frontend plugin with nodeVersion v0.12.1, npmVersion>2.14.12 and see these kinds of errors every so often (maybe 1 x per week).

  • Should I update the version of frontend, node, npm?
  • add settings to NPM call to alter timeout or retry?
  • configure local cache for github projects?

Thanks for the help.
