Github repository showing ember app within node app as empty

A friend and I are working on a project in Node and Ember (he is working on the node side of things and I the Ember). However, for some reason the github repository shows the entire Ember app (my-app) as an empty folder and when I try to clone it/ pull it, it comes as an empty folder. Does anyone know why this might be happening/ how to fix it?
