getting an rss feed into ember-data

I'm a first-time Ember user looking for a best practice for pulling an external rss feed into ember-data. This isn't a use-case I've encountered anywhere, probably b/c it's pretty uncommon and...not ideal.

I suppose I could do this on a route without ember-data but I'd like to take advantage of the way ember-data only fetches the data once, not on each visit to the route.

Thanks for help, even if it's just pointing me to the correct resources to figure this out.
