Cannot append view after upgrading Emberjs

I decided to upgrade Ember.js version in my project from 1.5.1 to the latest (1.10.0). However, it caused errors which are related to appending views/components using "appendTo" method. Following the tutorial here I've created a sample example: http://ift.tt/1KDhLM0

I'm getting the following error:
