Ember Data - Get only 3 entries from list of model.

Is there a way to query the store and only pull back 3 entries. I have a list of events with dates for data. How would I pull back the 3 upcoming events based on the current date? Would it be easier/better to create a new endpoint on my backend to just send back the 3 events?

Sorry no code, I have read and tried just about everything I have come across.
